Procedure Details
Dental Crowns
A crown is used to entirely cover or 'cap' a damaged tooth. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a tooth-like shape and structure for function.
Dental Bridges
A bridge may be recommended if you're missing one or more teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite. The imbalance caused by missing teeth can also lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
Procedure
A dental crown procedure typically requires two visits. During the first visit, we examine and prepare the tooth, take impressions, and place a temporary crown. On the second visit, we remove the temporary crown and place the permanent one. For bridges, the process is similar but involves preparing the teeth on either side of the gap.

Does getting a crown or bridge hurt?
During the procedure, your dentist will numb the area with local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. After the procedure, some sensitivity is normal, particularly when the crown or bridge is new.
How do I care for my crown or bridge?
Good oral hygiene practices, including brushing twice a day and flossing daily, are essential. With bridges, special floss threaders may be necessary to clean under the pontic (the artificial tooth). Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are also important.
